Overview
Glutathione is the body’s most abundant and powerful endogenous antioxidant, present in virtually every cell. Often referred to as the “master antioxidant,” it plays a central role in neutralizing free radicals, supporting liver detoxification, maintaining immune function, and protecting cells from oxidative damage. Glutathione levels decline significantly with age, chronic illness, and environmental toxin exposure, making supplementation a key area of longevity and detoxification research.
Mechanism of Action
Glutathione functions as a direct free radical scavenger and also regenerates other antioxidants — including vitamins C and E — back to their active forms. It is a critical cofactor for glutathione peroxidase enzymes that neutralize hydrogen peroxide and lipid peroxides. In the liver, it conjugates with toxins and heavy metals to facilitate their excretion. It also plays a key role in regulating the immune response and maintaining T-cell function.
Research Applications
Research on glutathione has focused on liver detoxification and protection, immune system enhancement, skin brightening and hyperpigmentation reduction, neurodegenerative disease prevention, and heavy metal chelation. It has also been studied extensively in the context of cancer research, HIV/AIDS immune support, and as a protective agent against chemotherapy-induced oxidative damage.
Reconstitution & Storage
Greyline’s Glutathione is supplied as a lyophilized powder. Reconstitute by adding bacteriostatic water slowly along the inner wall of the vial. Store unreconstituted vials in a cool, dry place — refrigeration is strongly recommended. Once reconstituted, keep refrigerated and use within 30 days. Glutathione is sensitive to heat, light, and oxidation; handle with care.
